Dear visitors! I am glad to welcome you on the website of the Department of Water Supply, Wastewater and Water Resources Protection of the Samarkand State Architectural and Civil Engineering Institute named after Mirzo Ulugbek. On its pages you can find out about the directions of work, research of our department, as well as find information about the history and present day of the department, its success and future plans.
Currently, the department employs 28 teachers and four technical staff. Of these, 1 doctor of technical sciences, professor, 7 candidates of technical sciences (PhD), associate professors, 6 senior teachers, 10 assistants teacher and 4 trainee teachers. Among the specialists of the Institute, 6 part-time workers were involved in the educational process as teachers. The scientific degree of the faculty is 37%.
Our department specializes in the preparation of bachelors, masters and doctoral students (PhD). Students who successfully complete the course are awarded an academic bachelor degree. Produced areas of study are prestigious and in demand in the labour market for all times, because water, especially for the countries of Central Asia, is a vital and strategic resource and water related environmental issues are very argent in this region. Employment of graduates of the department was not a problem, and all the knowledge gained by students in the course of training, are used in the subsequent work in full, and this is not an exaggeration.
The team of the department is formed by highly qualified faculty, among them there is a DS (doctor of science), professor, PhD (candidates of science), associate professors, as well as a number of young teachers and doctoral students who are seeking scientific degrees and intended to learn from experience and continue the common cause.
The Department  of "Water Supply, Wastewater and Protection of Water Resources" is a complex of equipped laboratories and specialized auditoriums, in which, along with training tasks, scientific developments of new and modernization of existing processes, structures and devices on the profile of the department are carried out.
The department is in close contact with leading utilities, specialized state unitary enterprises, construction and design organizations. As a result of cooperation, guided tours of water supply and wastewater facilities, conferences and seminars with representatives of various companies and organizations are held.

The Department "Water Supply, Sewerage and Protection of Water Resources" is a graduate and prepares graduates in the direction of undergraduate education:
• 5340400 – Construction and installation of engineering communications (Water supply and sewerage) - full-time and distance learning;
• 5341200 –Design and operation of water supply and sewage systems; full-time and distance learning 
For the preparation of highly qualified personnel for the master's program:
• 5А340401 - Water supply, sewage, protection and rational use of water resources;
• 5А630104 - Wastewater treatment and water resources protection.
Postgraduate training of scientific personnel in the fields of doctoral studies (PhD):
• 05.09.04 - “Water supply. Sewage. Construction systems for the protection of water resources ”;
• 01.02.05 - “Fluid and gas mechanics”.
Specialized faculties of the department conduct classes in 40 disciplines, of which 28 are for undergraduate and 12 subjects in magistracy specialties. All disciplines are read on the basis of official approved programs and provided with the necessary methodological literature. The teachers of the department have developed more than 300 educational and methodical literature intended for the performance of course and diploma projects, laboratory works and independent work of students.
In scientific and educational work, the department maintains close relations with leading universities, design and production organizations, companies, as Tashkent Institute of Architecture and Construction, Karakalpak State University, Termez  State University, Volgograd State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, State Unitary Enterprise “Suvokova ”, LLC“ Memorkurililhloyih ”and a number of other organizations.
Specialists of these organizations are invited to give lectures, guide the graduation projects, participate in the work of the SJC, consult and work with doctoral students. In these organizations, undergo practical and pre-diploma practice of students. A branch of the department was organized on the territory of the city sewage treatment plant, where laboratory and practical classes, as well as research work are conducted.
History of the department
Today the Department  of "Water supply, sewage and protection of water resources" is one of a powerful team of scientists and highly qualified teachers recognized in science, academic teaching and research. For its almost 50 years of history the department has transformed into a prominent division of the institute and earned a worthy place among the university scientific intelligence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The department was established on the basis of the department of “Plumbing” in 1971 and began its activities under supervision of  F.F. Ziyamukhamedoy in 1976-83. The department was headed by Ph.D. N.Zh.Zhumagulov. During this period, prof. P.I. Smirnov, Associate Professor H.S.Siddiqov, senior teachers A.I.Turakhodzhaev, E.S.Orda, I. B.Yakimova, A.V.Mnatsakanyan. At this time, young specialists were invited to the department: S. Saidov, A. Mirzaev, K. Yakubov, Sh. Imomnazarov, O. Jumanov, A. Saifullaev, O. Zhuraev, A. Isaev, E. Kurbanov, U. Alladustov, O. Buronov, N. Khalilov, A. Gadaev, Y. Holov A. Korzhavov I. Zherebnova S. Ablyaz and N. Sadullaev.
In the life of the department during 1984 - 1992 were great changes. During this period, they successfully defended their Ph.D. theses  by K. A. Yakubov, A. B. Mirzaev, O. Zh. Zhuraev, S. S. Saidov, U. Temirov, O. Zh. Zhumanov, N. Khalilov, O.Zh. Zhuraev, A.N. Gadaev and O. Buranov, and in 1994, for the first time in the history of the department, U.S. Soatov defended his doctoral dissertation as a DS.
Since 1996, the department was renamed to the department of "Construction of engineering communications", and since 2005 - "Water supply, chemistry and protection of water resources." Over the years, the department was chaired by F.F. Ziyamukhamedova (1971 - 1976), N.Zh.Zhumagulov (1976 - 1983), M.R.Rakhmonov (1983-1988), K.A. Yakubov (1988-1993), S.S.Saidov (1993-1996) , U.A.Soatov (1996 - 2004), K.A. Yakubov (2004-2010), A.Saifullaev (2010-2011), A.Mirzaev (2011-2012), O.Zhuraev (2012-2018) and since 2018 the department is headed by associate professor K.A. Yakubov.
Research activities
The department conducts scientific work in the following priority areas of science and technology, approved by the Scientific Council of the Institute:
• Development and introduction into production of modern methods of wastewater treatment of industrial enterprises (the head - Ph.D., associate professor K.A. Yakubov);
• Scientific work carried out within the framework of the program of sustainable development of water resources management (the head is Ph.D., associate professor A.N. Gadaev);
• Scientific research related to the rational use of water resources at industrial enterprises and the development of environmental standards (supervisor - senior lecturer U. B. Alaladustov).
By the teachers of the department published over 1000 scientific articles and theses in domestic and foreign periodical scientific journals. Of these, 16 copyright certificates, 4 patents. The faculty of the department takes an active part in scientific conferences. On the initiative of the department in 1993, 1996, 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2014, international scientific and practical conferences were organized, devoted to the problems and ways of solving environmental engineering and communications.
During 2012-2016, the faculty of the department participated in the international grant project  530666-TEMPUS-I-2012I-LT-TEMPUS-JPCR “Development of a Master Program in Sustainable Water Resources Management”, as a national leading university, whose national coordinator is Dr. A.N. Gadayev. In addition, Dr. A.N. Gadayev participates in other international grant projects  as ERASMUS 585718-EPP-1-2017-1-HU-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP (2017-3069 / 001-001) DSiGIS and HIGHVEC. On international exchange projects, scientists from the USA, Dr. Michal Brody (American University, Washington DC, USA as Fulbright teaching scholar) gave a master class on the topic: “The Science of Climate Change: USA- Uzbekistan) and by Prof. Michael Edelstein (Ramapo College of NJ, USA) on Sustainable Water Resources Management.
Teachers of the department conduct research in the field of rational use of water resources, treatment and reuse of wastewater in industrial enterprises. The research results are actively are being introduced, which allows to get a safe environment and environmental effect. Over the past three years, contract work has been performed on this topic for more than 200 million UZS.
Every year, the department holds a National student competitions in special disciplines as "Water supply and sewerage" and "Building engineering equipment", in which teams from leading universities of our Republic take part.
At the department are functioning:
• Educational laboratories “Hydraulics”, “Pumps” and “Internal water supply and sewerage of buildings”.
• Research laboratory "Problems of purification of natural and waste waters", equipped with modern devices and equipment.
• National Center for Sustainable Water Resources Management (based on the TEMPUS project outcome). In these laboratories, doctoral students, undergraduates and teachers conduct their research.
The success of the department
Graduate students of the department A. Islomkulova, F. Murtazaev  and N. Esanova ( Supervisors of Associate Professor K. Yakubov and Associate Professor O. Zhuraev) participated in the Russian Federation Competition of  Educational and Research Works "Effective Models and Technologies of Resource Saving, Energy Saving and Environmental Management in Construction and Housing and Public Utilities" (Russia, Volgograd, May 20-December 10, 2018) and won I-degree diplomas.
March 12-15, 2019 in Tashkent under the motto “Water problems concern the all society: no one should stand aside in solving them”, organized by the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Mechanization, UN Development Program in Uzbekistan in the framework of the joint project “Strengthening Technological Capacities”, as well as the EU program “Sustainable Water Resources Management in rural areas of Uzbekistan "held a contest dedicated to the March 22 World Water Day. A team of students led by the department teachers successfully participated in this competition and won prizes ad diplomas.
Every year, teachers of the department with their students take an active part in the competitions “Adaptation to the changes of the global climate”, “Talents of the new century” and win prizes, as well as receive valuable gifts.
Teachers of the department are actively involved in the competition the best teacher of higher educational institutions. So, over the past three years, the teachers of the department, K.A. Yakubov, A.N. Gadaev, and F.Akhmedova, have won prizes.
