Kengo Kuma and Higashikawa competition

Let's take  Aniva, the Japanese city of Higashikawa invites you to participate in an interesting competition for furniture designers KAGU "Kengo Kuma & Higashikawa".

The small town of Higashikawa, located in Hokkaido, has a developed furniture industry. Various interesting projects have been implemented here since ancient times. One of the first is "Your Chair".
Its essence is that each newborn resident of the city the mayor's office gives a personal highchair (original design, each chair has its own personal serial number). Anivchan, who visited Japanese friends, had a chance to see them. In fact, these are real works of art.
In elementary school, Japanese children study surrounded by beautiful wooden school furniture. And after graduating from high school, each student receives as a souvenir a chair that he used during 3 years of study. And he carefully keeps it all his life. All this, the Japanese believe, instills in children a respect for traditions, teaches them to value beauty, instills love for their native city.
Higashikawa City Hall is starting to implement its new project in cooperation with the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who promotes "charm of the area through architecture", as the Japanese themselves say. Architect Kengo Kuma advocates extensive use of local natural materials and has a keen interest in educating young people - the future generation of Japanese.
It is no coincidence that the project starts in 2021, the year of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo. It is assumed that in this way he will receive the support of a large number of people and will be able to bring people together around the world.
As the organizers explain, the KAGU design is a symbol of a new "neat" way of life for young people, people of the future. KAGU is a general term for the connection between man and the world, it is an extension of the generally accepted concept of furniture. Indeed, in everyday life we use many pieces of furniture, but in the everyday hustle and bustle it is difficult for us to see and understand how each thing was made, to learn to understand its value, - the Japanese believe.
