The Chair of “Foreign Languages” of the Samarkand State Architectural and Civil-Engineering Institute has been operating since 1966.

The Chair was renamed into the “Chair of Languages” in 1969 and began to work under the name of the Chair of “Russian and Foreign Languages”. Later, the Uzbek and Russian languages were added and the Chair became known as the Chair of “Languages”. Since September 2011 till 2015, it was the Chair of "Learning Languages." Since September 2015 till 2018, this Chair operates under the name of "Foreign Languages" and now it is The Chair of “Uzbek and Foreign Languages”.

Since November 2020, the Chair has been operating under the name of "Foreign Languages" within the Faculty of Management in Construction of the Institute.

From January 2016 to the present day Kenjaev Mirzokhid Ergashevich has been working as the head of the Chair.

Professors and teachers of the Chair of “Foreign Languages” conduct practical classes in English, German and French.

Currently, teaching staff of the Chair has 2 candidates of philological sciences, associate professors (Docents), 11 senior teachers, 9 teachers and 7 interns - in total 29 professors and 2 teaching assistants.

The average age of professors and teachers of the Chair of “Foreign Languages” is 45 years, and the scientific potential is 6%.

During the years of independence, Usman Sanakulov, Buvsarа Madzhidovna Akhmedova and Shokhista Zhalolovna Mamatkulova defended their doctoral dissertation.

Over the past period, special attention has been paid to improve the educational process, updating the teaching staff, taking measures to complement them with young and talented scientists, improving the quality of education and raising the level of students' knowledge and implementing the guidelines.

Decree of the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 10, 2012 No. PP-1875 “On Measures to Further Improve the Foreign Language Learning System” and Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated December 1, 2010 “Comprehensive measures to ensure basic educational institutions and Internet» access as well as orders of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of December 1, 2012 No. 479 and December 11, 2008 No. 488, for the introduction of advanced teaching methods using modern pedagogical and information and communication technologies and practical skills of teachers to use foreign languages in their professional activity, "Information technology and the Foreign languages", professors and teachers of the Chair regularly conduct trainings, they are trying to further study and learn English.

In order to further improve the quality of education, the department is working to provide new text-books, to create a new generation of text-books. In particular, over the past 10 years, more than 20 text-books, monographs, dictionaries, speakers and more than 300 scientific articles have been published at the institute and related higher educational institutions. It is widely used as a reference.

In order to further improve the quality of education in the Chair is being worked out to provide new textbooks, as well as the creation of educational literature of the new generation. For example, over the past 10 years, more than 20 textbooks, monographs, dictionaries, glossaries and over 300 scientific articles have been published at the Institute and related higher educational institutions. They are widely used as a guide for the Institute and associated higher educational institutions. 4 manuals, 1 text-book, 2 monographs, 26 scientific articles are listed in the HAC journals and 5 scientific articles have been published in journals included in the international database SCOPUS in the last two years.

Also, the teaching staffs of the Chair carried out research wok, regularly conducted themes on the basis of the approved by the Academic Council of the Institute in the afternoon.

At present, the senior teacher R.T.Eshmamatov, teachers M.A.Fozilova and O.M.Khamraev are conducting research work as independent researchers.
